Don't know why they get that big or what exactly is stored in there, but deleting them doesn't seem to do major harm. Go to DCIM/.thumbnails and delete the thumbnail files, these can grow up into the hundreds of MB. Haven't managed to create a symlink either, as that just gives "Permission denied", even in directories where you have write permissions.
Uninstalling default apps only works when running an old firmware or when rooted (which requires an old firmware as well). Moving apps to the SD card doesn't help much, as apps will still use a couple of MB on the Fire itself when they are moved and that's enough to fill up your internal storage long before the SD card itself fills up. The former can fit into carry on easier and the line of Fire tablets don't weigh a lot at all.ĭon't think there is a real solution to this. If you travel, I would suggest getting the 8" as 7" is still quite small. I tried it on two of mine and it did not work. Even if you know what you're doing, you can still brick it. Google play isn't all that people hype it up to be. The larger the internal HD, then you can fit more apps but it isn't meant to be full of tons of apps. The latest Fire of mine has a microSD slot (up to 128GB which is great for your personal content and downloading movies, music, books, etc. If you just bought it, then return it and get the better one. Save up if you have to but purchasing one with at least a 32GB internal HD is best for long-term use. Of course, Amazon is NOT going to give good deals with the higher HD options. At minimum, you should shoot for 32 or 64. The OS 's future updates must fit on that HD. Nowadays 8GB is nowhere near large enough. 2012 HD, HDX 8.9" (the best out of the 3 and overall from my experience) and 2016 Fire.
